CT - Cider and boxes

From: Trish Kurdziel (trishkri@yahoo.com) | Date: 2001-09-05 19:59:00 UTC-07:00

We spent a wonderful afternoon last weekend in the Stonington, CT area checking on our Metamorphosis and panic boxes (as well as Evergreen).  All are doing well.  Best of all, we stopped at Clyde's Cider Mill for the first batch of sweet cider of the season - yum!  We will have to plan our boxing over the next few months to take advantage of the wonderful nectar.  Thanks to all of those who placed boxes in the area that should be no problem.

Fred has decided to carry up a few extra rocks next time he visits panic at Lantern Hill to hide it better.  Apparently the last visitors found it by accident and had some rude comments about 'boxing ruining everything with its rules.  The number of empty beer bottles in the immediate proximity led Fred to believe that they were up there for more than the view.  At least they re-hid the box...

Can we tempt you to take a road trip? If you do any of the
Meriden/Middlefield boxes, such as Wadsworth Falls or Barb & Larry's
Ledge, nearby Lyman Orchards has a cider mill too, as well as a corn
maze for kids of all ages.

We like Lyman Orchards, also. I love all the hikes along ridges in
the area. And a corn maze could clinch it for the kids. Of course,
maybe we should also plan a trip back to Westwoods and Bishop's
Orchard... I love New England in the fall.

Speaking of corn mazes, has anyone been to the Titanic Corn Maze on Route 2
in Preston? Dan and I went a couple of weeks ago and had an awesome time!
They give you a passport with numbers 1-16. You can try to go through and
go straight through the maze, or (this is the fun part) you can try to find
all 16 lifeboats that are hidden around the maze. When you find a lifeboat,
it is numbered and has a stamp attached. You stamp the corresponding # on
your passport. It's really fun if you try to find all 16! We did and it
took us about 1 hour and 20 minutes. They are open Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday from noon til dusk. The cost is maybe $5 for adults, and worth every
penny. The maze will be open through Halloween.

Enjoy,
Melissa
